LEAVE A LEGACY® is the public awareness campaign of the National Committee on Planned Giving®. The LEAVE A LEGACY mission is to increase the quantity (and quality) of charitable planned gifts, with a special emphasis on bequest giving. 10 Things You Can Do Today to LEAVE A LEGACY®
1. Prepare a will to take care of the persons and organizations you love.
2. Leave a gift (bequest) in your will to charities, places of worship, educational or health institutions, arts, cultural or environmental institutions that have made a difference in your life.
3. Use the beneficiary designation of your retirement plan, 401k, or IRA to benefit your favorite charities.
4. Purchase a life insurance policy naming a charity as the owner and beneficiary, or name it as the beneficiary of an existing policy.
5. Endow your charity and receive lifetime income through the use of a Charitable Gift Annuity or set up a charitable trust.
6. Consider giving some of your assets such as cash, stocks, bonds, CD’s, real estate, vehicles, art, and other personal property.
7. Set up a donor advised fund or family foundation.
8. Remember loved ones with memorial gifts.
9. Use professional advisors for maximum tax and legal advantages.
10. Become active in charitable organizations and encourage others.
